IMPACT OF JOB-CHANGE

A taxi passenger tapped the driver on the shoulder to ask him a question.
The driver screamed, lost
control of the car, nearly hit a bus, went up on the footpath, and
stopped centimeters from a shop window.

For a second everything went quiet in the cab, and then the driver said:
"Look mate, don't ever do that again. You scared the daylights out of me!".

The passenger apologized and said, "I didn't realize that a little tap would

scare you so much."

The driver replied, "Sorry, it's not really your fault. Today is my first
day as a cab driver - I've been driving a van carrying dead Bodies for the

IQ Test (Question)

Next week you will have the answer.

BEWARE OF HOTEL CARD KEYS

This is pretty good info. Never even thought about key cards containing anything other than an access code for the room!

HOTEL KEY CARDS

Ever wonder what is on your magnetic key card?

Answer:
a. Customer's name
b. Customer's partial home address
c. Hotel room number
d. Check-in date and out dates
e. Customer's credit card number and expiration date!

When you turn them in to the front desk your personal information is there for any employee to access by simply scanning the card in the hotel scanner. An employee can take a hand full of cards home and using a scanning device, access the information onto a laptop computer and go shopping at your expense.

Simply put, hotels do not erase the information on these cards until an employee reissues the card to the next hotel guest. At that time, the new guest's information is electronically "overwritten" on the card and the previous guest's information is erased in the overwriting process.

But until the card is rewritten for the next guest, it usually is kept in a drawer at the front desk with YOUR INFORMATION ON IT!

The bottom line is: Keep the cards, take them home with you, or destroy them. NEVER leave them behind in the room or room wastebasket, and NEVER turn them into the front desk when you check out of a room. They will not charge you for the card (it's illegal) and you'll be sure you are not leaving a lot of valuable personal information on it that could be easily lifted off with any simple scanning device card reader.

For the same reason, if you arrive at the airport and discover you still have the card key in your pocket, do not toss it in an airport trash basket. Take it home and destroy it by cutting it up, especially through the electronic information strip!

If you have a small magnet, pass it across the magnetic strip several times. Then try it in the door, it will not work. It erases everything on the card.

CCM ... Aug 2008

Compound fertiliser and pharmaceutical product manufacturer Chemical Co of Malaysia Bhd (CCM) said it may have to push back its RM2 billion revenue target to 2010.

They missed the target which was supposed to be made this year (2008). They have a turnover of about RM1 billion. CCM has set aggressive targets of growing its turnover from about RM700 million in 2004 to RM1.4 billion last year (2007) and doubling its pre-tax margin within the three-year period.

They want to increase the market for its products, both domestic and globally, and to do that, we have to ensure that our products and processes conform with the halal requirements. CCM intends to leverage on its halal certification to increase pharmaceutical, fertiliser and chemical sales to the global consumer markets to 40 per cent in two years from 20 per cent at present.
The fertiliser division, which contributes half of the group's revenue, is expected to remain strong with the country's focus on agriculture. Its pharmaceutical division is Malaysia's largest manufacturer of health supplements and medicine.

CCM has a strong presence in the region with offices in Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and the Philippines. It is also exploring opportunities in central Europe, Central Asia and the south Pacific.

AL-'AQAR KPJ REIT ... Aug 2008

The world's first Islamic heathcare property trust plans to inject nine more properties into the trust, raising its asset size to just over RM1 billion by year-end (2008) from RM651 million now (Aug 2008).

Of the nine properties, it will buy six hospital buildings and one nursing college from KPJ Healthcare Bhd for RM305.9 million. The remaining two properties it plans to buy are a hotel and office tower, Hotel Selesa and Metropolis Tower, which company officials said will be complementary to the healthcare tourism industry.

If regulators approve the deal, it will be the first time in the world that a hotel is included in an Islamic REIT. Under syariah guidelines, hotels cannot be included. The hotel is well-positioned to benefit from health tourism sector growth and its operations are in accordance with syariah principles. The REIT's syariah committee had approved the proposed purchase.

Some RM392.9 million will go towards the purchase of the nine new assets. This will be satisfied by RM249 million cash and the issuance of 151.4 million new REIT units at 95 sen each.

KPJ will use funds from the sale to Al-'Aqar to build and acquire more hospitals, as well as reduce borrowings. They have RM200 million to RM300 million available to build and acquire hospitals, and we can also raise more cash by reducing our stake in the REIT," Muhammad Ali told reporters at a briefing yesterday.

For now (Aug 2008), KPJ to maintain a stake of about 49 per cent in the REIT.

KPJ owns or manages 18 hospitals in Malaysia and six overseas. Hospitals overseas may later be injected to the REIT, but "not at this juncture". The seven buildings that KPJ is selling to the REIT are the Seremban Specialist Hospital, Taiping Medical Centre, Kota Kinabalu Specialist Hospital, Bukit Mertajam Specialist Hospital, KPJ Tawakal Specialist Hospital new building, KPJ Penang Specialist Hospital and PNC International College of Nursing and Health Science.

This will be the third injection of properties into the REIT and it is expected to be completed by year-end (2008).

The KPJ board also approved expansion plans for the Nilai college, where it recently bought a nine-hectare piece of land. For the first phase, KPJ will spend RM22 million to build facilities to accommodate up to 3,000 students from 1,200 currently.

GPacket ... Aug 2008

Green Packet Bhd will spend up to RM1bil for the development of WiMAX infrastructure over the next four to five years.

The group had spent RM300mil for the deployment of WiMAX technology. The company, through subsidiary Packet One Networks (M) Sdn Bhd (P1), is the first to commercially deploy WiMAX technology in the country as well as in the Asia-Pacific region.

The first phase of the WiMAX service would cover 25% of the population, the second a further 15% and the third phase, another 25% of the population. The group needed to continue to spend on infrastructure as it was committed to covering 65% of the population.

The group did not expect to break even immediately and how fast it would recoup its investment would also depend on the average revenue per user.

UNICO ... Aug 2008

Unico Holdings has proposed a capital reduction exercise followed by the distribution of Unico-Desa shares to its 22,200 shareholders on the basis of 2,560 Unico-Desa 25-sen shares for every 1,000 Unico Holdings RM1 shares held.

The scheme was denounced by former Unico Holdings director Tan Kai Hee, who claimed the proposed capital reduction and distribution of Unico-Desa shares was detrimental to the interests of minority shareholders. Small shareholders could gain more from an en bloc sale to a major buyer instead of receiving the distributed shares.

However, key leaders of Unico Holdings replied that the proposal would allow Unico Holdings shareholders to cash out after holding the unlisted shares for more than 20 years.

The SC is actively reviewing complaints from minority shareholders of Unico Holdings Bhd on the proposed capital reduction and distribution of Unico-Desa Plantations Bhd shares. The SC has received complaints from minority shareholders of Unico Holdings in relation to its 29% interest in Unico-Desa and is actively reviewing the matter.

While shareholder disputes must be resolved in accordance with the law, the SC will not hesitate to take appropriate enforcement action if there is a breach of securities laws. There are relevant provisions in the securities laws for the protection of minority shareholders.

The Unico Holdings board has since been embroiled in a bitter tussle with Tan, forcing the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia president Tan Sri William Chen to intervene but all efforts failed.

Tan was granted a High Court injunction to stop Unico Holdings from holding an EGM to pass a resolution on the capital reduction exercise. The company’s AGM, however, proceeded as planned on Aug 6 2008. The minority shareholders were hopeful that all issues could be resolved before the Unico-Desa AGM on Aug 28 2008.

The rationale for the company’s decision to venture into the credit and leasing business would also be raised at the AGM.

Ta Ann ... Aug 2008

Ta Ann Holdings Bhd plans to ride on the recovery of plywood prices by diversifying into new markets in Europe and the Middle East this year (2008), while reducing its traditional exports to Japan. Japan currently represents about 97% of Ta Ann's total exports.

The rationale for the diversification was due to Ta Ann's bad experience following the collapse of the Japanese housing starts in 2006-2007 when changes in regulations had resulted in the lack of new housing development in the country.

Ta Ann would continue to export to Japan but at a lesser volume as the country was still the biggest market for Malaysia's timber sector.

On Ta Ann's joint venture with Sarawak's Land Custody Development Authority for paddy cultivation, the group was waiting for the approval from the relevant authorities. Ideally, the group would be looking at cultivating about 4,000ha for paddy and to operate a rice mill. The Sarawak state government recently said it has allocated 12.3 million ha of land to be transformed into the country's next rice bowl state.

The Ringgit Fell Below RM3.30 Against The US Dollar

The ringgit fell below 3.30 against the US dollar for the first time in eight (Aug 2008) months, pressured by foreign sell down on local stocks and bonds.

Economists expected further pressure on the ringgit, on the increasing likelihood that Bank Negara would keep interest rates at current levels as prices of crude oil and other commodities declined.

The weak ringgit will help local companies boost their export earnings, but make import of food products more expensive.

Bank Negara said (Aug 2008) the country’s foreign exchange reserves at US$125.1bil as at end-July 2008 showed the first monthly decline since August 2007. Late last month (July 2008), the central bank kept interest rates unchanged, despite faster inflation in June 2008.

The weakening equity market is expected to weigh down on investors’ sentiment, and hence lead to either lower inflows or outflows of portfolio investment”. The drop in foreign reserves reflected the large outflow of portfolio investments, which offset the continued inflow of export proceeds. Meanwhile, the foreign sell-off on Bank Negara’s issued papers and Malaysian government securities was evidenced since May 2008.

Industry observers are expecting foreign investors to continue unwinding their holdings in fixed income securities, given the ringgit will likely weaken further on the back of a strengthening US dollar.

Bank Negara governor Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz said the movement of the ringgit reflected the movement of the major currencies. The central bank had seen the US dollar strengthen across the board while other currencies, including the major currencies, depreciated. This is just an international development and will monitor it closely. Any intervention that we undertake is to maintain orderly market conditions. That is their priority. They will not be intervening to affect the underlying trend of the currency.

In recent months (Before Aug 2008), the EU central banks are expecting to raise interest rates, hence saw the euro strengthening. However, since the fallout from the US subprime mortgage crisis had affected the EU economies more than expected, this had limited the EU central banks’ flexibility to increase nterest rates.

The US dollar rose against almost all major currencies on 09th Aug 2008. The euro declined against the greenback for a fourth week on rising prospects the European central bank would keep lending rates as growth slows down in the region.

According to a news report, EU central banks, unlike the Federal Reserve, were slow to respond to a potential slowdown, refusing to cut interest rates as they focused on fighting inflation. The sentiment was that the US economy would again be able to leave the crisis behind very quickly.
Fundamentally, if there was a pullback in the ringgit, Malaysia’s exports should be more competitive. However regionally, the currencies were also weakening against the greenback.

Companies with large borrowings will have to pay more?

Companies with large exposure to US dollar borrowings, including Tenaga Nasional Bhd, Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) and TM International Bhd (TMI), may be the most affected by the strengthening greenback.

As at March 31 2008, TM’s US dollar borrowings totalled RM6.17bil, Tenaga (RM6.03bil) and TMI (RM2.65bil). If the dollar continues to strengthen further, companies with large US dollar borrowings would have to pay more to service their loans.

Exporters and plantation companies are expected to benefit from the ringgit’s recent slide (July – Aug 2008) against the US dollar as it cushions the margin squeeze felt from inflation and falling commodities’ prices.

The ringgit’s weak (Aug 2008) performance has largely been attributed to the US dollar’s gains against major currencies. A slower exports would result in further declines in the ringgit.
The weakened ringgit would be favourable towards plantation companies, such as Sime Darby Bhd, which had seen a downtrend in crude palm oil prices.

Other beneficiaries of the ringgit decline included companies with exposure overseas, especially those in the oil and gas sector which has businesses contracted in US dollars.

At a basic level, exporters would benefit from the ringgit decline but not by very much as margins are already thin due to inflation. Even if goods (sold) are cheaper, overseas demand is lower as a result of a slowdown in the European Union, China, and the US. So, the weaker ringgit may not help improve volume significantly. The setback in the local currency would, however, paint a slightly better picture for the palm oil sector as it helped to stabilise the declining price of the commodity.

Malaysian exporters are susceptible to headwinds and won’t escape the erosion in global demand.

WHO IS RICH & WHO IS POOR

One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live

They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family

On their return from their trip, the father asked his son

How was the trip?

It was great, Dad.

Did you see how poor people live? the father asked.

Oh yeah, said the son.

So, tell me, what you learned from the trip? asked the father.

The son answered:
I saw that we have one dog and they had four.

We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end……

We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night. Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon.

We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond …

We have servants who serve us, but they serve others. We buy our food, but they grow theirs.

We have walls around our property to protect us; they have friends to protect them

The boy's father was speechless

Then his son added, Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are Isn't perspective a wonderful thing?

Makes you wonder what would happen if we all gave thanks for everything we have, instead of worrying about what we don't have

Appreciate every single thing you have!

On its current RM700mil order book, the contracts would last until early 2012.
Major current contracts include the supply of work-over rigs, telecommunication towers, sewerage projects and the supply of tankers.

On its delayed Labuan Shipyard Engineering Sdn Bhd joint venture deal, it would be concluded in a month or two (Sept – Oct 2008). The delay was deliberate as they need time to re-evaluate the viability of the project, But, all the details have been ironed out and they are currently finalising the contracts with our Iran counterpart for the supply of rigs.

Clever Boy

A first-grade teacher, Ms Anna (Age 22) was having trouble with one of her students.

The teacher asked the boy, 'what is your problem?'

The boy answered, 'I'm too smart for the first-grade. My sister is in the third-grade and I'm smarter than she is! I think I should be in the third-grade too!' Ms Anna had enough. She took the boy to the principal's office. While the boy waited at the reception of the office, the teacher explained to the principal what the situation was.

The principal told Ms Anna he would give the boy a test and if he failed to answer any of his questions he was to go back to the first-grade and behave.

The boy was brought in and the conditions were explained to him and he agreed to take the test.

Principal: 'What is 3 x 3?' Boy:

Ms Anna: 'You stick your poles inside me. You tie me down to get me up. I get wet before you do.'

Boy: 'A tent'.

Ms Anna: A finger goes in me. You fiddle with me when you're bored. The best man always has me first.

The Principal was looking restless and a bit tense
He took one large Vodka peg.

Boy: 'Wedding Ring'

Ms Anna: I come in many sizes. When I'm not well, I drip. When you blow me, you feel good.

Boy: Nose.

Ms Anna: I have a stiff shaft. My tip penetrates. I come with a quiver.

JF Tech ... August 2008

It expects more than 30% of its overall revenue in its financial year ending June 30, 2010 (FY10), to come from its new production lines in Kota Damansara, which is expected to be operational by the third quarter of FY09.

The test probes and test sockets maker aimed to enhance competitive advantage by including products such as pogo pins, which would also see the company tapping into wafer level test evaluation and substrate test market.

Test probes, which range from very simple, rugged devices to complex probes that are sophisticated, expensive, and fragile, are physical devices used to connect electronic test equipment to the device under test (DUT). Compared to semiconductor equipment makers, test probe producers are less susceptible to fluctuations in industry cycles as they are regarded as staple consumables needed to test the performance of integrated chips before the chips are assembled into electronic products.

As for the local test probe market, Foong said there was a huge untapped market potential for JF Tech, which currently commands a 7% market share while imports dominated with more than 90%. It has been reported that JF Tech expects its market share to cross 10% by the end of next year.

JF Tech was also currently in the process of applying for another new patent for its W-Series test probe and expected to roll out the newly-patented products by September this year. To date, it had already filed for a patent for its Lasak pin in Malaysia, China, the Philippines and the US.

On its dependence on SRM Integration (M) Sdn Bhd as its single largest client … 65% currently.

LCD TV vs Astro

My colleague just brought a new Sharp LCD TV recently. After his LCD TV is completely setup and switch on to watch Astro, he notice his LCD TV is damn blur. He was thinking what's going on? What's wrong to the LCD TV? New TV already got problem?
Is this Astro problem? or LCD TV setting problem?

His previous 29" normal TV output is better than the new LCD TV!

I told him, I heard other people also having the same problem, we cannot compare the output quality from the TV showroom. Those showroom LCD TV are playing good quality DVD and it is connected to high density cable, definitely the output are great and attractive.

After some research, he noticed he need to invest on extra Audio/S-Video cable to have higher quality output from Astro.

He went to a chain electrical shop ask for it, and the sales man recommend him Monster Standard® THX-Certified Audio/S-Video Kit, which cost him RM265.

When he connect to his LCD "Baby", he said the Astro output quality only improve 50%. :(

His previous 29" normal TV output is better than the new LCD TV!
Regretted to invest on this new LCD TV. :(

TSM Global Bhd... Aug 2008

This sound like IBM backup product.

TSM supplies wire harness, automotive accessories, high tension ignition cable sets and PVC wires and cables. Perodua contributes 30%-33% to the group’s revenue. It also supplies its products to Korean makes, including Inokom, and Daihatsu.

Motor vehicle parts maker TSM Global Bhd is cautiously optimistic on its outlook, leveraging on the expected continuing strong demand for Perodua’s Myvi and Viva.

Compact cars like the Myvi and Viva are very much in demand due to the increase in fuel prices, with Myvi having the lead in sales.

TSM had been facing rising production cost due to the increase in raw materials but it had been able to pass through the rising cost to its customer.

Financial Results … TSM posted a nearly fourfold jump in net profit to RM6.93 million in the its first quarter ended April 30, 2008 from RM1.78 million a year earlier, while revenue rose 52% to RM66.81 million from RM44.08 million.

How to recover Windows 2000?

My HP notebook, Compaq nc4400, already starting behave weird for sometime. Sometime I'm not able to shutdown properly, and it force me to shutdown the notebook with power off button.

Last Friday, it happened again, and this time when I tried to startup again, it is booting up with blue screen, unrecognised boot device, and suggested to perform chkdsk /f to check the corrupted file system.

Last time, I likes ERD Commander for the recovery, it is simple and straight forward, unfortunately this utilities only function for IDE disk and not able to recognised SATA disk.

I know another easiest method is to unplug the Harddisk from notebook and plug it into a SATA disk enclosure and perform the chkdsk from another PCs, I'm sure this will work. Unfortunately I only have IDE Harddisk enclosure.

I tried W2K and XP installation disk, unfortunately this CD does not allow me to perform chkdsk after booting up.

Tried to find other recovery utilities, which hopefully can make a bootable CDs to boot up my notebook, then perform the chkdsk/f to fix the problem. Found a few like Utimate Boot CD for Dos and another one UBCD for Windows.

Utimate Bood CD for Dos was good, it can boot up and perform scanning for hardware devices, unfortunately this utilities does not have chkdsk utilities. Tried UBCD for Windows, build of boot this is not straight forward, and it is not for Windows 2000.
I tried to build it with XP, unfortunately my XP SP2 disk is having problem, and I'm not able to proceed further.

Spending too long hours looking for recovery utilities, but not able to get a quick and straight forward one. At the end, I purposely buy a 2.5" 160GB Seagate SATA disk + enclosure, which cost me RM200, it is very cheap now. I pluged the HD into the enclosure and perform the chkdsk/f, the problem immediately fixed.

I have few doubts:-
Why the W2K or XP installation does not provide basic functionality such as chkdsk...
Why out there not much recovery utilities available.....

Sigh......

Najib: Permatang Pauh tough for BN

Barisan Nasional expects a tough time in its bid to defeat Anwar Ibrahim in the forthcoming Permatang Pauh by-election, said Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

"We have to be realistic. Its going to be a tough constituency, but we'll do our best," Najib told a press conference after a function in Kuala Lumpur today.

Najib and Anwar have been involved in a protracted political fued which is bound to heat up as the deputy premier is most likely going to lead Barisan's campaign on the PKR leader's home turf.

Traditionally the deputy premier will head BN's election campaigns in all by-elections.

"Anything can happen in a by-election," said Najib, adding that Anwar had obviously stacked the odds in his favour by contesting in his former constituency.

Both Najib and Anwar are self-declared prime minister hopefuls but both are dogged by criminal allegations - which both typically reject as being political assassinations.

Najib said that Anwar was using the by-election instead of availing other channels to expunge his name from sodomy allegations made by a former aide.

“Anwar has decided to take it to the people (despite) having the opportunity to clear his name using the processes available to him. The accusations were made by his staff and not the government,” he said.

He added that Barisan leadership would be meeting soon to decide on a candidate.

Price drop?

In another development, Najib said that the government may be adjusting fuel retail prices in view of falling world crude oil prices.

“There was discussion about this at the last Cabinet meeting. I was not present. If the trend continues downward, it is only right that it is reflected in the domestic prices,” he said.

He reiterated the government’s position that it wishes to keep fuel prices 30 percent lower than market prices but refused to put a time frame on when a decision can be made.

“We’ll see what is the decision (but) it has to depend on market conditions. Certainly there is a desire for us to reflect the current market situation,” he added.
